Richard Farrelly

My journey is deeply rooted in a dedication to justice, forged over 27 years in  policing at the frontline and in specialist units. With experience responding to major crises, like the Black Saturday bushfires and the Christchurch earthquake, I have developed a resilient, adaptable approach to leadership and team dynamics under pressure. My values? Transparency and fairness. These shape my commitment to empowering others, both within my community and beyond.

Through Head to Head, launched in 2018, I enable leaders across diverse sectors, such as finance, health, cybersecurity, government, and more, to foster authentic connections and build high-performing, collaborative teams. My work also extends to protecting vulnerable populations through my role in the Sex Industry Consulting Group, where I support human trafficking survivors, advocate for policy reforms, and provide insights to governmental bodies to prevent exploitation.

At the heart of my mission is a belief in resilience and equity, with a focus on creating spaces where communication is open, strengths are celebrated, and people can thrive together.

I am also a keen runner, having run marathons and ultra marathons here and overseas. I enjoy travelling with my wife and our two whippets, Skipper and Rocket. I also cut my own hair.

I am a multifaceted professional specialising in communications, leadership, risk management and the development of high-performance teams. With a career spanning over two decades in policing, I specialised in critical incident management, crisis negotiation, hostage negotiation, and cognitive interviewing techniques. As a tactical commander, I led a highly skilled and extensively trained team in resolving over 500 critical incidents, achieving exceptional outcomes in safety, planning and operational efficiency. These achievements are substantiated by numerous awards for leadership and performance.

As a trainer and program developer, I led two statewide projects, designing and delivering training to over 10,000 frontline officers, improving their capacity to resolve incidents through effective communication. I have been acknowledged by the Coroners Court of Victoria and the Victoria Police internal Disciplinary Advisory Unit as an expert in communication and subject control techniques.

Transitioning to consulting in January 2023, I am now a trusted advisor and consultant for businesses, educational institutions, not-for-profit organisations, government agencies, sales teams, security groups, and executives around the world. My expertise has assisted numerous entities to achieve outstanding results in safety, productivity and performance. I achieve this through the provision of occupational violence, communication, negotiation, and critical incident/emergency management training; executive, leadership and team coaching; and creating people-centric cultures that genuinely prioritise individual well-being and organisational success.

While forging a distinguished policing career, I founded multiple charitable organisations, one of which extended its impact overseas. Driven by my compassion for the marginalised, I established a foundation that operates a P-12 school and adult learning centre in Bali, with two campuses that is engaging over 500 participants on a weekly basis. Additionally, I partners with NGOs and NFPs and fervently advocate for human rights and the abolition of human trafficking and modern slavery.
